Coastal CODE Yakutat Expedition

Believe it or not, the icy waters of Alaska are hiding some choice surf spots, and we want to take you there! Coastal CODE has joined forces with Surfing magazine and Alaska Airlines to give four dedicated CODE Keepers the chance to catch some waves on the Alaskan coast with pro-surfer Joe Curren, while also devoting time to “Keep the CODE” by leading ocean conservation efforts.

So if you share our passion for healthy oceans, we want to hear about it! Using the form below, tell us in no more than 300 words why you feel it’s important to be actively involved with preserving our coastlines and how you are doing your part. Include a photo of yourself improving your local beach or showing your commitment to making a difference. It’s that simple. Be sure to get your submission in before July 1 for the opportunity to join us this fall on the ultimate surfing adventure- in Alaska.

Join Us and Surf Yakutat, Alaska

Clear your schedule, Alaska is calling! If selected, you will join fellow CODE Keepers and pro surfer Joe Curren on the ultimate surf adventure September 28th through October 4th, 2008, surfing icy waves, cleaning up the coastline and promoting the precious resources of one of the most pristine places on earth. Your duties as a CODE Keeper will require you to:

  • Surf the waves of Yakutat with pro surfer Joe Curren
  • Lead coastal clean-up efforts benefitting the shores of Alaska
  • Spread the message of Coastal CODE, its commitment to ocean conservation and its multimedia educational outreach program
  • Enjoy the adventure of Alaska, from glacier hiking and wildlife viewing to surfing and barbecuing with the Brew Crew of Alaskan Brewing Company in Juneau, Alaska

Help the Oceans While You’re There

This is your chance to make the difference that most people only talk about. Despite the pristine beauty of Alaska, each year debris in the Pacific Ocean washes ashore on its coastline, which is over five times the combined length of the Washington, Oregon and California coasts. Nestled in the shadows of Mount St. Elias, the small Alaskan fishing village of Yakutat is also home to the most famous surfing break in the state. While on this surfing trip of a lifetime, you will also help Coastal CODE educate others about the value of our oceans, and the need for EVERYONE to do their part to protect them.

Do it All Alongside Pro Surfers Joe Curren and Chris Del Moro

Coastal CODE is proud to have pro surfer Joe Curren join us on this surfing and conservation adventure. Joe Curren was born in 1973 in Santa Barbara, CA. At eighteen he began a career as a professional surfer; brought up in a family with a legendary big wave pioneer and surfboard shaper as a father and a 3x world champion as an older brother, it was inevitable the sport would play a big role in his life. To learn more about Joe Curren, visit www.joecurrenphotography.com.

I’ve surfed over thirty countries in six continents, but never in Alaska. This will be an amazing opportunity, to ride in one of the last frontiers of surfing while doing good for our oceans.
— Pro-surfer Joe Curren

Also joining the Yakutat Expedition is California surfer, artist and environmental advocate, Chris Del Moro. From a young age, Chris has grown up on the sea, allowing him to create a deep bond with the ocean and harness his passion for life and the environment through his love for ocean sports. Having grown up between three continents, he extended his travels across the world as a member of the U.S. Surfing Team. Currently, Chris has taken a break from competing to focus on his artistic pursuits and the adventure side of surf travel and documentation.

Chris is looking forward to exploring Alaska’s majestic landscapes and surf, and the adventures they may bring, on the upcoming Yakutat Expedition. To learn more about Del Moro check out www.collecticlife.com.

As surfers, I believe it is our utmost responsibility to take care of the ocean and surrounding land that provides us with infinite amounts of fun.
— Pro surfer Chris Del Moro
