Thanks to 14,000 Volunteers, Our Coasts are Cleaner
Coastal Code, Alaskan Brewing Company’s non-profit initiative, endorsed International Coastal Cleanup Day in September in Oregon, San Diego, Yakutat, and Juneau by cleaning up more than 200,000 lbs of debris from more than 520 miles of coastline with the help of more than 14,000 people.
Coastal CODE, along with Alaskan Brewing, sponsored the 2009 SOLV Great Oregon Fall Beach Cleanup, where they collected roughly 54,460 lbs of debris from 3,700 miles of shoreline in Oregon. Alaskan Brewing Co and McGrath’s Fish House accompanied the statewide cleanup where they handed out servings of McGrath’s famous clam chowder to the participants in Seaside, Oregon.
For 2009 Coastal CODE had six grantees that participated in the cleanup with help from their local partners and sponsors:
Grantee San Diego County CoastKeeper, in partnership with “I Love a Clean San Diego,” collected over 133,000 lbs of debris from 165 miles of shoreline with the help from more than 10,000 volunteers from San Diego County.
Grantee and partner, the Marine Conservation Alliance Foundation (MCAF), with help from the Yakutat Salmon Board and 2009 CODE Keepers and Alaskan Brew Crew, removed over 7,127 lbs of debris.
Grantees the Juneau Watershed Partnership, Turning the Tides, MCAF and members of Coastal CODE, with over 120 volunteers and neighbors cleaned up more than 7,000 lbs of debris from the sores and watersheds of Gastineau Channel.
A job well done by the Coastal CODE participants. Thanks for making our coastal areas a cleaner place to be.
